Coach Weber's Badwater 2000 Photo Album
Part 5 of 6
Higher On the Mountain!

(above) 7/30/2000 6:42 AM. Laura continued her support and encouragement up the mountain.

(above) 7/30/2000 7:14 AM. The sun rises higher on the peaks surrounding Mt. Whitney.

(above) 7/30/2000 10:21 AM. Climbing shirtless high on the mountain. Magnificent weather! Theresa and Scott Snyder lead the way. As for the reason I am shirtless, I always find my body thermostat is completely screwed up after leaving Death Valley...for weeks afterward I always feel "hot".

(above) 7/30/2000 11:14AM. The summit is still far away. It will take us another 80 minutes to reach it.

(above) 7/30/2000 11:39 AM. Frequent breaks are necessary for me on the climb up to the summit.

(above) 7/30/2000 11:53 AM. Standing with Scott McQueeney. Scott was descending from the summit having completed his Badwater to Mount Whitney Summit challenge. It was a great moment for me to see him looking so strong after such a tough journey. I had the honor of coaching Scott for this challenge. The best moment for a coach is to see that pride in the athlete's eyes that beams after reaching the goal that was the focus for so many months. Thanks Scott!! Let's do it again!

(above) 7/30/2000 12:06 PM. We continue our trek. Less than 30 minutes to the summit. The spires you see on the ridge behind us, I call the "Fangs".

(above) 7/30/2000 12:12 PM. Snow lingers in the shaded areas close to the summit.

(above) 7/30/2000 12:12 PM. The last few hundred feet of climbing...still the summit seems surprisingly distant. I focus on each step versus thinking of the summit.
